The short answer? Not at all. In fact, many of our regular guests find that ditching the keys is the best way to truly soak in the relaxed pace of Cabo San Lucas. Between our prime location on Medano Beach and the variety of reliable transportation options available, getting around is part of the adventure.

Here is your insider’s guide to navigating Cabo like a pro, ensuring you spend less time looking for parking and more time with a margarita in hand.

1. The Power of Your Own Two Feet

One of the greatest luxuries of staying at Villa La Estancia is our location. We are situated on the golden sands of Medano Beach, which is the heartbeat of Cabo San Lucas.

• To Downtown: A scenic 15-20 minute walk along the beach or the sidewalk will land you right at the Puerto Paraiso Mall and the edge of the Marina.
• To Dining: Some of Cabo’s most famous beach clubs and restaurants (like Edith’s or The Office) are just a short stroll down the shoreline.

Pro Tip: If you’re walking during the day, remember that the Cabo sun is intense. Stick to the shoreline where the breeze is cool, and always wear sandals—the sand gets surprisingly hot!

2. The Iconic Water Taxis

You haven't truly experienced Cabo until you’ve hopped on a water taxi. This is the most scenic way to get from the Medano Beach area (right in front of our resort) to the Marina or the famous El Arco (The Arch).

• How it works: Simply walk down to the shoreline in front of the resort. You’ll see captains with panga boats waiting.
• Cost: Usually around $10–$15 USD per person for a one-way trip to the Marina, or slightly more if you want a detour to see the sea lions and the Arch.
• Why we love it: It’s fast, fun, and offers the best photo opportunities of the coastline that you just can't get from a car.

3. The Convenience of Uber and Taxis

For trips that are a bit too far to walk—like a night out at Flora Farms or a visit to the San José del Cabo Art Walk—ridesharing and taxis are your best friends.

• Note on Pickups: Due to local regulations, Ubers often cannot pick you up directly at the resort lobby. You may need to walk to the resort entrance gate (a very short walk from the Hermosa Vista front door). However, they can usually drop you off right at the lobby upon return.

Official Taxis

Yellow vans (taxis) are omnipresent. They are clean, air-conditioned, and can accommodate large groups.

• The Villa La Estancia Advantage: Our concierge can call a taxi for you instantly. They will arrive at the lobby within minutes.
• Pricing: Taxis in Cabo work on a zone system rather than meters. Always confirm the price with the driver before you get in.

4. The "Ruta del Desierto" (The Purple Bus)

If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous and want to visit San José del Cabo or one of the surfing beaches along the Corridor for just a few dollars, look for the purple buses known as Ruta del Desierto.

• Where to catch it: There is a stop on the main highway, just a short walk up from the Villa La Estancia entrance.
• The Experience: These buses are modern, air-conditioned, and run every 15-20 minutes. It’s a great way to see the coastline between the two towns without the high cost of a private driver.

The only time we strongly recommend pre-arranging transportation is for your trip to and from SJD International Airport. The airport is about 45 minutes away, and airport taxis can be pricey.

• Luxury Transfers: We recommend booking a private suburban or van. It ensures that after you land, you aren’t waiting in lines. Your driver will meet you with a sign, often with cold water (or beer!) waiting in the vehicle.
• Grocery Stops: Many private transfer companies offer a complimentary 30-minute grocery stop at Costco or La Comer. This is the perfect time to stock the gourmet kitchen at Hermosa Vista with your favorite snacks and drinks for the week.
